Why You’re Not Getting Sales—And How to Fix It Fast

Featured • June 11, 2025

You’re posting. You’re emailing. You’re showing up.

But the response is crickets.

What’s going on?

Could it be that you’re speaking to the wrong people entirely?

The problem might not be your content. It might be your audience.

Many small business owners waste time marketing to the wrong crowd — people who were never going to buy in the first place.

Here’s how to stop that.

Step 1: Know Who Actually Buys From You

It’s easy to mistake attention for interest. But just because someone likes your post doesn’t mean they’re ready to pay you.

So instead of focusing on who’s cheering you on…

Look at who’s actually booked your services.

  • Who’s paid an invoice?
  • Who said “Yes” when it really counted?

That’s your real audience — and that’s who your marketing should be speaking to.

Quick Hack: Write a mini profile based on your last 3 paying customers. What do they all have in common?

Step 2: Speak Their Language, Not Yours

Your content shouldn’t be written like a journal entry.

It should speak directly to your customer’s needs, pain points, and goals.

Examples:

  • Instead of “We offer full-service catering with a custom menu,”
say “Need help feeding a crowd without the stress? We’ve got you.”
  • Instead of “Bookkeeping and accounting support for freelancers,”
say “Still guessing your way through taxes? We’ll handle the numbers so you can focus on the work you love.”

Talk like your customer thinks. Make it about them.

Step 3: Show Up Where They Are (Not Where You Like Hanging Out)

You might love Instagram, but your buyers might be on Youtube.

You might prefer emails, but your audience checks Facebook daily.

So look at your last 5 clients or sales.

Where did they find you? What platforms were they already using?

That’s your starting point. Double down on what’s already working.

Step 4: Attract More of the Right People

Once your message, content, and platform are aligned with the right audience, your results will change fast.

You’ll stop chasing. You’ll start attracting.

And that’s the goal, isn’t it?
